John Carlisle
ACL, MCL tears; fractured femur and tibia
On March 20, 2005, my life changed. On my last run of a great powder day, I impacted with a
small tree. Although injury to my head had been avoided, I soon learned that I had a
multiple-ligament injury to my left knee as well as fractures to my femur and tibia. After
seeing my orthopedic surgeon, I was sent to physical therapy despite the fact that my surgery
date was 8 weeks away.
From my first visit to Potrero Physical Therapy, I knew this was the best place for my recovery,
both before and after my surgery. The staff was both optimistic and honest about my long-term
recovery. In the weeks prior to my surgery, by working in combination with visits to the clinic
and practice at home, I was prepared physically for my operation and ready for my 9-month
recovery.
I was given a seemingly overwhelming amount of exercises, but the one-on-one attention and
support I received from Potrero Physical Therapy helped keep me focused and vigilant towards
my goal. As a result, I am in the best overall physical shape I have been in some time.
I was fortunate enough to return to "normal" at my profession, cabinetmaking, which requires
me to be on my feet all day.
Although no one really considers there to be an "upside" to being injured, I learned much from
the staff at Potrero and feel truly fortunate that I was able to be cared for at the clinic.
I will continue to practice the stretching and physical exercises I was taught for a lifetime,
not only to maintain my left leg, but my overall physical health.

DDD, HNP lumbar spine
The therapists at Potrero Physical Therapy are phenomenal! This place is a must for anyone
that has an active lifestyle and has the desire to get better fast. Lance took the time to
not only understand my spine injury, but also the athletic goals I had in mind, and then
customized a rehabilitation program that helped me return to a high level of activity. I’ve
since incorporated many of the practices I learned at Potrero PT into my weekly training
regimen.
Thank you, Potrero PT!

I tore cartilage in my shoulder in an accident, and after surgery Lance and Tracy at Potrero PT got it working again. I can't praise them enough, Lance is
incredibly careful and disciplined in his approach and the facility is great. I liked the music selections and Lance even lent me a book about Ernest
Shackleton. I'm a second rate surfer at best, but it's my most important mental health program. Potrero PT enabled me to get back in the water ahead of the
forecast and with a strong and prepared shoulder.

Hint: During an intermediate snowboard lesson, when a snowboard instructor says "Wanna learn something new?", graciously decline his or her
entreaty however tempting it may be, prop the board next to the nearest fire-pit, order a Johnnie Walker Black on the rocks and taunt passersby
for the rest of the afternoon. If however, you gave the wrong answer, ("You bet!") -- which results in an appearance by Ski Patrol and a visit
to the nearest emergency medical clinic that doesn't accept your insurance -- you may require physical therapy twice a week for the next few
months.
If that happens, go to Lance Harriman, MSPT at Potrero Physical Therapy. My bone doctor said "I have referred hundreds of patients to physical
therapists all over San Francisco but no one gets the results like Lance Harriman at Potrero Physical Therapy." And it's true. The therapists
are very skilled, knowledgeable and attentive. The facility is modern and comfortable. It isn't readily accessible, (it takes a muni transfer
to get there), but it is well worth the trip.

I have rehab'd a number of injuries with Traci at Potrero Physical Therapy. Her magic hands and healing touch first helped with a knee
injury, and she helped put me back together after I lost a battle with a car on my bicycle- I was hit and run over, yet today I am
nearly symptom free thanks to Traci. The whole office is great, from the warehouse space to the music to the surf photos. Lance runs
a top notch facility, and Traci is my injury angel!
